About Adventures Online

Adventures Online was founded in 1997 by Karen Callahan. Adventures Online designs, develops, maintains and hosts websites, performs Organic Search Engine Optimization, and offers Web-related consulting and contracting services. 

To complete your project, Karen assembles a team of professionals with the specific skill set required to accomplish your goals. These professionals range from graphic designers, to copy writers, to marketing and public relations professionals, to business consultants. Affiliates

Adventures Online has extensive programming and database experience and is available on a contract basis to complete discrete portions of larger Internet projects. Karen is often referred to as the "Web Developer that the Web Developers call." Here's some sample modules that Karen has developed.

Background:
Karen has over 24 years experience designing and developing custom software for business organizations. She started as a programmer, worked her way to project leader, program manager, and ultimately, Information Systems Consultant, before leaving the corporate world to start her own business. Karen has managed small- to large-scale, local and international software development projects as well as designed and developed websites and business-to-business transaction modules for Internet and Intranet environments. 

Karen holds a Masters degree in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS) from Bentley College, Waltham, MA (1988).

Community Involvement:
Karen resides in Marlborough, Massachusetts where she has lived for 17 years. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Curtis Square Condominium Association in Marlborough, MA. In support of her community, she provides pro bono hosting to the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Leisure
Karen recently returned to Utah for vacation and stayed at the magnificent Sorrel River Ranch Resort in Moab. She and co-traveler, Linda Tatten (client and friend), kayaked for the first time down the Colorado River with class 2 rapids. Karen is an avid Texas Hold'em fan and player. She has played at the tables in Vegas, but, mostly plays on the popular non-gambling poker sites under the handle "PokaPaloma". A couple of times a year, she participates in local Texas Hold'em games for charities.  
Company Highlights  
December 2007 - Karen attended PubCon 2007 in Las Vegas NV. So much information was gathered that she continues to meet with colleagues who also attended in order to review notes, report on research, and strategize about the future of their businesses.  
September 2007 - Adventures Online celebrated 10 years in business with a big party at Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Marlborough, Massachusetts. See the official press release about Adventures Online's 10th Anniversary Celebration.  
November 2006 -  Adventures Online partnered with Circle Graphics of Hingham, MA at the Annual Business Expo sponsored by the South Shore Women's Business Network to announce the launch of MidLifeJourney.com. This web site for baby boomers, was developed by baby boomers in order to provide information of interest to the baby boomer generation.  
October 2006 - Adventures Online partnered with BBWrites Strategic Communications of Watertown, MA to present web sites they have developed in common at the 2006 Job Fair/Career Day sponsored by the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association.  
September 2006 - Karen Callahan presented an introductory level session on Blogs entitled, "Blogs 101, to the Marlborough Chapter of Rotary International. Rotary International

Karen presented a technical session entitled Website Development and Maintenance to attendees of the 32nd Annual Convention of the National Association of Black Accountants held at the Hynes Auditorium in Boston, MA.
Karen presented at the annual meeting of the Massachusetts Manufactured Housing Association held in Falmouth, MA
Karen was the technical editor for a Hungry Minds (formerly IDG Books Worldwide) book, “Technical Writing for Dummies", written by Sheryl Lindsell Roberts.
