I'm a fan of "First Things First" by Stephen Covey. It makes sure the things you are working on are in service of your long term priorities. It helps you realize that how you spend your 24 hours is unique to you and needs to be tailored to your long term goals.

I also enjoy the messages of "Loving what Is" by Byron Katie and "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle although I agree that both books have their flaws as well.

Hi Meg -

I use Notepad the same way as you. It is so easy when you have notes as "text only" because then you can cut-n-paste and don't have to worry about dragging unwanted formatting.

Thanks for the kind words about the website. It is a work in progress. For a little over a year now, I have been telling customers that they need to convert their websites to run on the WordPress blog platform. I've been preaching that at speaking engagements - and - I've converted a number of websites, but, had not converted my own. You know the story of the cobblers kids...

I finally bit the bullet in late Februrary 2010 and started with the website conversion and am still rebuilding it. Trying to incorporate all the things on my What's Hot and What's Not list for 2010. Things like the fluid design format, menu at the bottom, and the social media in obvious position.

Come back soon, as I will be adding a Poll and other functionality and refining the colors, sizes of sections, and overall design.

Karen,

I'm glad to see a post about Notepad. I keep meaning to write one myself.

On any given day I'll have several Notepad files open, as I'm researching and writing blog posts, articles, and even tweets. It's so handy to have a little pad sit on top of whatever web page I'm viewing, so I can type notes and thoughts about it, without having to constantly open and close Word or WordPerfect documents.

I wonder how many people even know about Notepad?

BTW, I love the new look of your blog and website!

Hi Karen,

I was like you at the beginning of this year. I dabbled very infrequently in tweeting and didn't see what all the fuss was about.

Then I got busy leveraging all Twitter has to offer to position myself as a subject matter expert (or at least try) and build evangelism for my brand, and WOW, I really started seeing things happen!

I came across and made solid connections with people I probably never would have known otherwise. Tweets have led me to information and resources I may not have found otherwise.

As an executive personal branding and job search strategist, my Twitter activity positions me as a social media-savvy professional. The Twitter strategies I've learned have become very helpful to my clients in job search.

You're right. The key to getting the most out of Twitter is to work from a strategy - a strategy for how frequently you'll tweet, who you'll follow, who you'll re-tweet, what you'll re-tweet, etc.

I'm pretty busy with LinkedIn, too, but find the immediacy and pace of Twitter much more captivating and valuable.

Keep the great posts coming!

Meg -

Thanks for another great idea for engaging your audience.

And, oh yeah, don't look at my blog...I'm waiting for a couple things to fall in place... then I'll update the version and add the widgets. Until then, I'm at my clients' beck and call!

Some great information here on improving reader engagement on a blog.

I frequently find that when I write about some fun off-topics on my blog, such as humor, cooking, gardening -- things that I'm passionate about -- people respond. They're reminded of happy things. They like getting to know a little about my interests. Sometimes, these people become clients.

Thanks for the advice on including social networking components on our blogs. Looks like I need to add some plugins/widgets at the end of my blog posts ;-)

Hi Karen, Wish I'd been to this one. What's the advantage of using software such as Linkscape vs. linkdomain at yahoo?

Thanks, Alice
