Last night I attended the SEMNE event held in Providence, RI. Nick Gerner of SEOmoz was the presenter of “Inside the Black Box: How Search Engines Rank Web Pages“.
Nick is a Search Engineer and co-developer of SEOmoz’s new Linkscape product. (He mentioned the other primary co-developer several times, and it is my bad that I didn’t record his name. Maybe Nick can remind me…)
Nick was prepared, knew his material, and his enthusiasm was contagious. He shared relevant information, and was at ease answering, and indeed, was excited to answer questions ranging from right-on-target to related-through-several-layers of “what ifs”.
Nick talked about the delicate balance of providing valuable user experiences and attracting search engines at the same time. Topics included Text Classification, Page Rank, Rank Time Techniques, Semantic Links, Sentiment Indexing, Document Structure, Link Analysis and Link Spams, Linkscape and mozRank, and more…
I was impressed with his presentation skills and his knowledge. His slides were a great complement to his message, and made understanding the concepts easy… and thought-provoking.
My goal at any event is to walk away with a nugget or two. Goal accomplished - AND - I have 4 pages of notes to review and think about. …About what the search engines are looking for, how they categorize, the super (have you heard it before?) importance of inbound links, and the importance and relevancy of products like Linkscape.
So Kudos to SEMNE for inviting Nick and Kudos to Nick for a great presentation and re-energizing my thoughts around my approach to SEO.

I am currently working on an eBook. It will be offered for free on the website.
Working title: How to Make the Most of your Blog
Primary focus: Tips for bloggers for optimizing their posts for the search engines. The tips will be about how to write in your blog, and of a non-techincal nature, so that any blogger will be able to apply the tips to attract the search engines to their blog.
My experience is that over time bloggers tend to forget good blogging practices and the tricks for attracting the search engines. “How to Make the Most of your Blog” will provide reminders to keep bloggers on track and to help them improve their position in the search engines results pages - which will help them get found.

The Pre-Dinner Program at the monthly meeting of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys was a great success! Members came ready with questions. I came with a list of What’s Hot and What’s Not. The combination of the two made for a meaningful and lively exchange.
Thank you to MANAELA for inviting me to share my thoughts and experience. I hope that you all learned some tips to help with your 2009 Website strategy.

I am pleased to announce that I will be the guest expert of the Pre-Dinner Program at the monthly meeting of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys this evening.
I look forward to answering questions, dispelling myths, deciphering fact from fiction for this esteemed group of lawyers who work to protect a most vulnerable group of our population.

Yes, you read correctly! 15 MILLION dollars… AND the blog was owned by a single person, John Wu. Mr. Wu’s Bankaholic.com sold to Bankrate.com for $12.4 million up front with $2.5 million to come over the next year or so…
I subscribe to Daily Blog Tips, and author Daniel Scocco mentioned a post by Patrick Gavin: Most Expensive WordPress Blog Ever Sold?
“I was looking at this deal and was thinking if this isn’t the highest price tag paid for a single WordPress blog than it must be the most profitable WP blog ever sold! A deal estimated at $15M, seemingly all organic search traffic (so no cost for the traffic, the site is highly ranked for many top banking terms, ie “CD Rates“), and one employee! Well done John Wu.”
UK-based BlogStorm blogger Patrick Altoft had this to say:
“Blogs have huge value, we all just need to wait until the world realises just how valuable they are and then there will be a lot of rich ex-bloggers around.”
I agree. Keep on blogging!!!
